Video Otoscope—A Major Advancement
For Diagnosis and Treatment Of Canine and Feline Ear Diseases

Ear disease is one of the most common and recurrent complaints presented to the veterinarian. Ear disease is a complex process and should not to be taken lightly by the pet’s owner. It is very painful and left untreated can lead to life-long chronic problems. Accurate diagnosis and treatment are the cornerstones for a successful outcome to ear disease.

Dogs’ and cats’ ears are predisposed to ear problems; they do not drain well compared to human ears. Dogs generally have more problems with ear disease than cats. Large floppy ears, excess hair and wax production, and small ear canals contribute to the individual’s predisposition to ear problems. Actual causes of ear disease include allergies, parasites, foreign bodies, and certain breed problems. The warm, moist, and dark confines of the ear with the ever present bacteria and fungus compound the insult.

Without an accurate diagnosis, it is unlikely that a lasting recovery from the ear condition can be realized. Advanced technology recently introduced by MedRx, Inc. of Largo, FL, helps in the diagnosis and treatment of ear disease. The Video Otoscope allows the veterinarian to more precisely evaluate, diagnose, treat, and guide the recovery of the diseased ear. So the next time you see “Fido” shaking his head, or “Fluffy” scratching her ears, do not underestimate the potential for lasting problems—see your veterinarian.
