Humane Society of Tampa

In June 2014 the Humane Society of Tampa Bay’s (HSTB) Animal Health Center successfully passed months of rigorous review by veterinary experts from the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and became the first non-profit animal hospital in the State of Florida to be AAHA-certified.

When a hospital has AAHA accreditation, it is considered by the veterinary community to be the gold standard of the industry.  Only 12-15% of animal hospitals in North America have gone through this demanding and time consuming accreditation process with a total of 3,200 accredited practices in the U.S. and Canada.

“We aim to lead the way for the health and well-being of companion animals in our community and beyond,” said HSTB Executive Director Sherry Silk. “Currently, there are only 18 non-profit hospitals in the country that have received this distinction; our Animal Health Center has now joined this elite group.”

Accreditation through AAHA demonstrates that HSTB holds itself to a higher standard.  Keeping animals healthy through excellent care has always been the number one priority, because they deserve nothing less.

The Animal Health Center supports the Society’s mission to end animal homelessness by offering affordable veterinary care to the public seven days a week. Having access to these lower-cost services keeps people who can’t afford mainstream veterinary care from having to turn their pets in to a shelter or have them euthanized. And, any proceeds from the animal hospital benefit the mission and programs at the shelter.
