Acupuncture

Acupuncture is used to promote balance in the body’s total energy system and ability to heal. Ancient theories describe the body as having energy channels called meridians, which conduct the flow of Qi - the body’s sustaining energy force. Qi regulates the body as it flows through the meridians. When the Qi flows in a smooth and harmonious manner, health is the result. Whenever Qi is disrupted, imbalance occurs and disease may result. Through the precise placement of needles, or other stimulus, acupuncture helps to reset the energy system by balancing the flow of Qi within the body.

Veterinary acupuncture goes back thousands of years. Today it is being taught in some of the top veterinary schools around the world. Acupuncture may be used by itself, or combined with more conventional medical treatments. Arthritis, cancers, stomach upset, seizures, neurologic problems, and musculoskeletal disorders are just a few conditions where veterinary acupuncture may be appropriate as primary or secondary therapy.

Response to acupuncture varies according to the underlying problem and the disease. Any treatment should be formulated for the individual. To determine whether veterinary acupuncture or other alternative therapies are appropriate for your pet, you should speak with a veterinarian who has been trained in these modalities.
