4 Threats To Our Furry Friends

What All Pet Parents Must Know
Our wonderful, loving companions often can’t watch out for themselves... that’s up to the humans in the family! Time for a quick “pet parent quiz.” Are you making any of these mistakes that put the health and safety of your canine or feline family member in jeopardy?

• The outside world can be a dangerous place. Free-roaming cats are especially vulnerable, and could run into trouble with all manner of Florida wildlife, including poisonous snakes! Wounds may go undetected, and may become infected.

• Inside, use the same precautions you would with children when it comes to any kind of medication. Make sure all medications are safely capped and in closed cabinets. Don’t tempt your counter-surfing pooch or high-jumping cat with anything dangerous.

• Even during “supervised” time outdoors, there’s potential trouble right in your yard. Look for debris or trash, which may be teeming with germs or bugs! Speaking of supervision, any time outside after dark is always supervised, right?

• Multi-pet home? You’re probably well aware of your pets’ different personalities. Often, one particular pet will be the “alpha” of the household, and that may cause issues for other pets. Be on the lookout for what we call “conflict triggers” - ways pets push each others’ furry buttons. You may need different feeding times, a second litter box, etc. Some pets are more “needy” of human attention too, but then you probably already knew that!
