Saraosta Sheriff's Office
Animal Services

Animal Services is charged with the enforcement of County Ordinances and State Statutes pertaining to animals. Officers investigate cruelties, abandonments, animal bites, nuisance animals, Dangerous/Vicious Dogs, sick/injured animals and lost pets. Our shelter is responsible for reuniting lost pets with their owners, adoption of unwanted pets and trap rental for nuisance cats. We are constantly striving to educate the public regarding pet ownership responsibilities and proper animal care. In the event your pet becomes lost, always have a current Sarasota County license on their collar or harness. Officers and staff can research the license to ensure you are notified in a timely manner that we have found your pet. Microchipping your pet can also help us get your dog or cat back to you. Officers have electronic scanners with them, and every animal that is picked up is scanned at the scene or at the shelter. If the microchip is registered, you can be notified that we have found your pet.

Keep accurate and current files of your pet’s vaccination, registrations, photographs and microchip information handy so that if your pet becomes lost, you’ll have everything available. If your pet is missing, don’t wait days to report it. Report your missing pet to all local shelters and rescue organizations. Posting fliers, placing an ad in the newspaper or on line, and telling as many people as possible that your pet is missing will greatly increase the likelihood that you and your pet will be reunited.
