People Pass Me By

They brought me to this place,
And said they would not be back.
Everything that belonged to me,
They had already packed.

They took off my collar,
That had read my name.
I was now a shelter dog,
I just felt so ashamed.

I could hear them talking,
They said I chewed up all their stuff.
They had to bring me here,
Because they had had enough.

I sat there and wondered,
What did I do so bad?
I would always give them,
All the love that I had.

I poke my nose through the bars,
And try to look real brave.
I think I look like the type of dog,
That someone would want to save.

I try to put on my best face,
As the people pass me by.
I wonder if they know they’re looking at
A dog that’s going to die.

I can’t believe this has happened,
I went to bed and everything was fine.
I can only pray right now,
That someone comes in time.
